SONY XPERIA 1: A PHONE WITH AN ELONGATED DISPLAY
Sony has been in the smartphone game for a very long time. But their phones have never brought something new to the table. This might change with their latest smartphone the Xperia 1.
This new smartphone has one unique display. It is an extremely tall display at 6.5 inches 4K OLED display that supports HDR along with an aspect ratio of 21:9. Sony claims that this phone can be used for content consumption, but it is mainly useful for movies only as no other content is available in a 21:9 aspect ratio like with YouTube you will always get black bars on both the sides and if you try to zoom to fill the screen the top of the video gets cut.
There are both pros as well as cons to this phone. Let's start with the pros of the phone even though it has a large display the phone is still pretty slim and easy to use by no means can this phone be used by one hand. Sony has provided various ways of helping the users to use their phone with one hand if you double-tapping the home button the display shortens allowing the phone to be used in one hand, holding the home button will launch the google assistant.

Even though the 4K display is incredible, but the button layout is also very complicated. All the buttons are on the right side (Power Button, Fingerprint Scanner, Camera Button) of the phone and for some reason, the fingerprint scanner is right above the power button and not integrated with the power button in no way I am saying that it is not reliable. The fingerprint is very snappy as long as it is clean.
Sony Xperia 1 has 3 camera's on the back primary camera, telephoto lens, and a wide-angled lens. Sony has finally added a decent camera on their smartphone. Personally, I always prefer a wide-angled lens over a Telephoto. I mean telephoto is useful to take shots that are at a certain distance, but a wide-angle lens allows us to get more in a single frame which is far better than a zoomed in shot.
For some reason, Sony doesn't use HDR by default for clicking photos which is weird. Also, Sony doesn't offer a RAW format of photo in their manual camera mode which is weird. Sony Xperia 1 does not have a good front camera the photos are foggy and the image processing isn't that impressive.
Sony Xperia 1 comes with the latest Snapdragon 855 processor along with a clean build of Android. The phone only comes in one storage option i.e. 128GB with 6GB RAM with expandable storage with the help of a microSD card slot.
The one thing I can't get over is the price at $950 it is competing with Pixel, S10, iPhones and seeing its front camera performance it is difficult for me to recommend this to the average person, but if you are looking for a phone solely for content consumption or cinematography then this phone is a good buy. But still, $950 is a really steep price. If Sony had priced the phone at around $600-$700 then I could have recommended it.
THANK YOU
